William Long AUGUST 16, 1937-JUNE 27, 2018 William H. Long, 80, of Rock Island, passed away Wednes- day, June 27, 2018, at home. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Fifteenth Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island. Entombment will be at Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island.

He married Shirley J. Ca- nute on Nov. 9, 1957, in Rock Island. He was employed at Reynolds Manufacturing for 10 years. He then worked at Quad City Engineering, Rock Island, until his retirement in 2005.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. William was an active member of Fifteenth Avenue Chris- tian Church, Rock Island, where he sang in the choir. He en- joyed boating, fishing, hunting and fastpitch softball. His favorite times were spent with family and at church activities.

He will be fondly remembered as a loving hus- band, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Shirley, of Rock Island; children (and spouses), Terry (Joel) Ambrozi, Moline, Anthony Long, Rock Island, and Tammy (Ron) Mutka, Milan; 11 grand- children; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Don (Donna) Long, Rock Island, and Raymond Long, San Antonio, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and close family friends, Aran and Jeff Reddig, and their daughter, Jena. Roy was born on May 14, 1930, at Moline Public Hospital, Moline, a son of Bert Roy and Fama Snook Brown. He mar- ried Majorie Winterbottom in 1948. Later, he married the love of his life and soulmate, Alice Hoffman, in No- vember of 1968. She preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 2015.

Roy was a bricklayer for over 40 years for the Local 6. He also did fire-brick work for A Green for many years. After retirement, he worked several years at the Lady Luck Casino (Isle of Capri) in the housekeeping department. He and Rexine loved golfing, fishing, camping and travel- ing. He was a member of the Rock Island Fraternal Order of Eagles 956.

Survivors include his sons, Rod Brown, Missouri, and Randy (Jill) Brown, West Virginia; stepchildren, Connie (Don) Brock, Andalusia, Linda Hesse, Andalusia, Robert (Bob) Freeburg, Milan, Louie Hoffman, Andalusia, and Chester (Shelly) Hoffman, Andalusia; numerous grandchil- dren and great-grandchildren; and brothers, Bert Allen Brown, Rock Island, and William H. Brown, RR Milan. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Rexine; two sons, Roy Lee, and Robbie Brown; and sisters, Adaline Meyer, Phyllis Edmund and Charlotte Schaab. He was a member of the Church of Christ and loved online pool and euchre, golfing, gardening and cook- ing.
